Laying the heating mats

Laying the mats should be done carefully, while avoiding mechanical damage to the heating cable. When installing the mat, do not use sharp or cutting tools. The installation of the heating mat must be carried out in shoes with soft soles so as not to damage the cable. Do not step on the cable unnecessarily.

Before laying the heating mats, it is necessary to draw up an installation plan on which the heated areas, cold wires, as well as the location of the temperature sensor and the thermostat will be marked.

The possibility of connecting the power supply to the mounting point of the thermostat must be planned in advance.

The installation plan is stored with these installation instructions.

Before laying the mat, check the quality of the floor surface. The cracked surface of the floor should be pre-primed, and the cracks should be puttied. The floor must be clean and free of dust.

Wooden floors, chipboard floors, plywood, special gypsum boards must be rigidly fixed.

If necessary, the mat grid is cut, as shown in Figures 1 – 4. When cutting the grid, be especially careful – do not damage the cable! Be careful not to cross cables and mats. The heating mat must not be shortened or doubled. Next, the heating mat is laid out in accordance with the installation plan.

The heating mats should be laid only on those areas, which subsequently will not be blocked by furniture that fits snugly to the floor. Prolonged accumulation of heat in such places can lead to defects in the heating mat. If you still need to install furniture on a heated area, you should make slots in the base or install it on the legs for air circulation.

When installing electric heating in the kitchen, leave a zone free from heating of approximately 60 cm from the wall for the kitchen furniture.
Do not place the mats at the locations where holes will subsequently be drilled (for example, to secure the toilet). The minimum distance of the cable from the walls should be at least 5 cm, so that when attaching the skirting boards avoid damaging the cable. When laying the mat, make sure that the distance between the two heating cables is not less than one pitch of the meander (about 5 cm).

It is necessary to provide a groove in the floor for the tube of the temperature sensor between the turns of the heating cable. Place the temperature sensor in the plastic corrugated tube included with the system. The sensor should be located inside the tube near its end; its connecting wire should exit from the other end of the tube. Remove the tube from the location of the thermostat to the floor. The bending radius of the tube must be at least 5 cm. The tube hole in the floor should be closed to prevent the tile glue from entering the tube. Fix the tube in the groove and on the wall. After fixing the corrugated tube on the floor and on the wall, make sure that the sensor moves freely inside the tube. To do this, it is enough to partially extend and then reinsert the sensor wire. This installation method is used so that, if necessary, the sensor can be replaced without opening the floor.

Subsequently, the heating mat and cold wires are attached with glue points to the floor (place the heating mat with the cable down so as not to damage the cable when applying the tile glue). Cold wires are placed at the thermostat.

The minimum bending radius of the cable must not be less than 25 mm.

After the mat is fixed to the floor, a tester measures the electrical resistance of the heating cable. The tester readings should correspond to the following values:

An exact coincidence of these figures with the measurement results is not necessary; the difference can be +10% and -5%.

Make a test connection (according to the instructions for connecting the thermostat). Touch the cable with your hand, if it starts to heat up, unplug everything, and proceed to the next step.

Next, a layer of tile glue is applied to the floor using a notched trowel, and ceramic tiles are laid.

If linoleum, carpeting or laminate flooring is chosen as a coating, the mat is poured with a thin layer (4-5 mm) of a self-levelling mortar.

After laying the heating mat, the electrical resistance of the cable is measured again. The readings must correspond to the factory parameters and are recorded in the guarantee card. The guarantee is not valid without data entered.

The first switch-on of the heating mat is made no earlier than 48 hours after the installation!
